The Church of England: comparison of its development during the reigns of Henry VIII and Edward VI

This bachelor thesis aims to compare the development of the Church of England during the reign of Henry VIII and his son Edward VI. In the first part of the thesis there is a brief overview of Henry's and Edward's reigns. The Regency Council that governed the realm while Edward was a child is also mentioned. The work also deals with Henry's divorce from Catherine of Aragon, as it led to the break with Rome. Furthermore, this thesis is concerned with the documents and acts issued by the parliament that established the royal supremacy over the Church of England in the 1530's. The second part of the thesis focuses on the process of establishing the doctrine and liturgical use during the 1530's and 1540's. Important differences between the development during Henry's and Edward's reigns are compared. These differences concern especially the doctrine of Eucharist and communion or the attitude to clerical celibacy and marriages. Individual chapters of the second part of the thesis are concerned with particular events that are crucial for the development of the Church of England, e.g. the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the suppression of the chantries, English translation of the Scripture or the publication of the Book of Common Prayer. Historical film as information source and the comparison to its literature rendition

The bachelor thesis focus on the definition of information (the importance of information in general, information in books), then it will consider the characteristics of the film and its historical significance from the perspective of the viewer. As the subject of examination, on which the thoughts and findings will be demonstrated, is chosen the important English King- Henry VIII., who has been depicted in many movies and about whom there were written many books as well. Primarily the bachelor work focus on the historical accuracy of the movies and books, the comparison of the importance of both the media (what information value both media provide). The bachelor thesis also aims on the general perception of movies and whether the examined work are quality and accurate source of information. In conclusion, there will be the comparison of the information value of these two selected media.

The bachelor thesis comprises of two main parts - the translation and the commentary on it. In the first part, a chapter from the book The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn by the British historian Eric Ives is translated. The source text deals with the marriage of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn and some of its aspects. The second part begins with the analysis of the source text based on Christiane Nord's model and the determination of the text's functions and the translation method. In the next chapters, the major translation problems are discussed along with the translation shifts that took place during the translation process.

This thesis consists of two parts: the first one contains a translation of a section from the chapter Burning convictions, in the book A History of Britain by the British historian Simon Schama; the key themes of the translated text are the period of the Tudor reign and the Reformation of the Church. The second part is a commentary of the translation, containing detailed translation analysis of the original English text based on extratextual and intratextual factors, description of the chosen translation method, typology of translation problems and their solutions, and is concluded with typology of shifts that occurred in the translation.
